hi all,
I'm new here so be nice !
The reason I am posting is I am wondering what would be the easiest (and cheapest) way to get to the slopes in 2008. Does Ryanair or Aerlingus fly out of anywhere in Ireland (Cork/Dublin/Shannon) to places that I could go skiing with public transport.
I would like to book as much of this on my own so that I can avoid the high costs from some of those tour operators. We will be 4 people , me and my wife and 2 kids (10 & 13).
Looking at Ryanair I see that I can get to Salzburg or Freidrichshafen airports. Would they be a good place to start ?
tomas, I don't know, but for the best of the best offers from Ryanair, you should register for their news letter. You can get up to 3 emails a week, but if you get dirty cheap flights, it will be worth it !

Tomas, it's not that easy to get deals around times when people really want to travel, i.e. school holidays or Christmas.
With the new open skies mandate between the US and Europe, I'm hoping that I will be able to go and ski somewhere in North America in the next few years.

I see offers with Ryanair to get to Stansted from Dublin, and then maybe go on from there. One thing I am calculating is the extra cost of bags for the Ryanair flights. I don't own equipment, but I own the clothes, so that will be almost an extra bag of stuff for me.

I got this the other day from www.easyjet.comBook your ski flights with easyJet and your skis go free
Winter 07 flights are now on sale, allowing you to book your ski holidays all the way through until March 2008! Book now to get the best fares.
And even better news, book your ski flights before the 5th October 2007 and you can check your skis in for free!
Simply enter the promotional code SKI08 when prompted to do so at stage 3 of the booking process and your discount will automatically be applied.granted it's not a lot of time. But maybe it's something to keep an eye on. You should sign up for those new letters from ryanair/aerlings/easyjet .

You do have to be careful, some places really screw you with the extra charges for your skiing equipment.
Here is something I came across today in my email box from Expedia, it's a link to their snow offers for 2007/8 season http://www.expedia.com/daily/vacations/ski/default.asp?emlcid=progmmn-camptr-issu181-testx-segm-sega-date20071105033948-vers04-link102732271-paid61052499-dma-wave214299966
They are offering up to 25% off some deals. Maybe someone will find it helpful.
I booked cheap flights to Turin (Italy) yesterday with Ryanair. Turin is a good location to get to any of the Dolomite mountains resorts such as Souze D'Oulx, Sestriere etc. You can do a search on the net and you will find apartments for rent in those places too. The ryanair site actually gives you the names and the lowdown on all the resorts near to the places they fly to, just click on the 'ski' tab on their home page.
