From a purist's idea, I am wondering what would be considered the Mecca of the skiing world ? I've heard great things about the Rockies in the US, while other people swear by the sheer availability of mountains in the Alps (Austrian/Italian/French/Swiss) that it has to be the best place on earth.

So what do you think ? Where is the best location for skiing, obviously cost of getting there shouldn't really effect the decision as I am, looking for suggestions for the worlds best ski resort !

I've also heard that Colorado is the place to visit at least once in your skiing lifetime.
As for other places, I think some of the glaciers in Austria are nice, and high, and they tend to have good aprés ski. And there are some great places to ski in Switzerland.

If I was a snow bunny (those people who live for skiing) I would place myself somewhere central like Innsbruck (I seem to mention this a lot), and I would travel to all the cool places. Austria is right bang central for all your skiing dreams !

Here (http://www.skinet.com/skinet/photos/article/0,26964,1660478,00.html) is a list of the better North American Ski locations, that I've come across.
The only problem with Skiing in America is the fact that you have to fly so far just to get there, but once you are there I guess the great exchange rate would pay off !

I would say that the European skiing is the best in the world. I mean, you have the alps, and many mountains over 3,000m (9,000 feet). I skied in the US once and it was really expensive for a ski pass too.
