Obertauern is near enough to Salzburg in Austria, and it's a lovely, lively resort. For those of you who like going off piste there are many locations where you can do so. The areas cutting between slopes are perfect for it. There is a nice mix of Red and Blue slopes, and even one or 2 black slopes for the more adventurous type of people.

I was there this weekend and the snow conditions were amazing. I think there had been up to 25cm of snow in the previous two days, which actually meant that there was a high avalance warning. There are plenty of bars and resturants on the slopes, and the Tal Fahrt (the slope that goes into the village, litterally Valley run) was still perfect at the end of the day.

I know this is one resort where I will be going back.

I've been to Obertauren a few years ago with the family and have great memories of the place. Great pics paul.

As far as I remember Obertauren is like a big bowl. You start off in the middle of the town and you can virtually go up any side of the place. Obertauern also has some black slopes that can be challenging esp. when there is fresh snow.

I like the pictures. I must get some of my pictures online.

Obertauern is close enough to Salzburg ? or is it better to go to Innsbruck ? Which way did you go paul ?

Obertauern is about 90km from Salzburg. I don't think it's one of the stations that you can reach by train, well it's not 100% beside it, you might have to get a bus from Radstadt.

Give the austrian train site BB (http://www.oebb.at/) a go guidon !

I was there yesterday and had a great time. Today while I was recovering from snow great powder snow, I did a quick write up on Obertauern (http://www.skiing.ie/ski-resorts/obertauern-austria-a-review/). The weather was great yesterday, a little foggy higher up, but there was snow and plenty of it.
