View Full Version : Christmas in Soll, Austria.
Hello. I am new to this website. I have booked a week in Soll for Christmas. So will be on the slopes Christmas day. It is my first time skiing. Has anyone been there before for Christmas and if so what was the life like around the town.
I've never been to Soll at Christmas, but generally I've heard that resorts are great places to be over Christmas and new years. While it's early in the season, it looks like this year will be a good one as there has been snow already in the alps.
Welcome to the website ! Thanks for joining.
Yes, I am really looking forward to my first time skiing. I think i will love it. I bought ski pants today. they are Gortex so they should do, but have been looking for a good jacket. Found a jacket that i really like E&O brand. the only thing , it's not fully waterproof. It's not cheap for it. What do you think, should i get a fully waterproof jacket, as i am a beginner and i'm sure i will be falling in the snow a good bit.

E&O are a really good brand not sure by what you mean not fully waterproof! Jacket should have a waterproof rating anything above 10,000 should be sufficent for the snow and a snow skirt will stop snow going up your back if and when you fall over
Try to get up to Kilternan and get some lessons in before you go even knowing how to put on your boots and get a feel for the skis on your feet will really help you when you go away.
It is a great way to spend a Christmas and the Austrians go all out with Parades etc, slopes are normally quite enough on Christmas day but plenty of fun.
Yes, i was thinking of going up to Kilternan for a lesson before hand. Would be good to have the basics before going.

I can reccomend Sat mornings full of handsome friendly instructor types ha ha.
Sat Morning and Friday night are quite so always a good time to be up there for lessons
Soll is great craic. Great runs off Hohe Salve across to Scheffau and down to Brixen and Hofgarten.
Joe's Bar is a great place for a beer on the slopes around 4.30pm before barrelling down the treacherous home run if you've got the balls!
Salvenstadl is a great apres ski pub with live music.
