Hi there,
Just wondering is anyone knows if there is such a thing as ski guides in Austria with the emphasis on just showing you around the mountain.
I am an intermed. skiier comfortable with most runs and have used ski guides with Crystal.
However we are headed to Westendorf for the New Year and not going through a tour company. Any suggestions would be welcome. We do not want to go to ski classes or pay for private lessons.
Many thanks

Hi Collette,

You should be able to hire someone for a full or half day to bring you on a ski tour around ski welt. Maybe try to give some places here a call http://www.schneehoehen.de/skigebiete/schulen/skiwelt-wilder-kaiser-brixental and see how you get on or http://www.skischule-brixen.at/

They are in Brixen, but it's right beside Westendorf.

Was in Skiwelt today .... the conditions were pretty good, well there was a bit of ice on the Hohe Salve, and coming down from that was a bit of a pain, especially if you are a snowboarder. Some of the better runs today were the 66 & 69 ones, and around the Brixen side of the mountain.

The weather was pretty much perfect

Video looks great ! and so clear....

Really enjoyed the week there. It was less busy than I expected and so much skiing to be done.We did Hopfgarten, Brixen and Soll from Westendorf and would have liked to have got as far as Scheffau.

Conditions were a bit icy alright at the start of the week. Towards the end it felt a bit more like off piste skiing and had great fun coming up and down the 71 on Thursday. We picked this run as we had a cover going up on the chairlift to Zinsberg as it was pretty windy up there that day.
Guided skiing was very expensive....200euro for 4 hours. By Thursday we had hooked up with a few others who knew the mountain better than me so I had the day off !!

Ouch €50 / hour for guided skiing, seems a bit steep (pardon the pun), glad it all worked out ! Skiwelt is a great resort, and the conditions are generally good there. I read that they have over 1,000 snow canons ! Next time you go, you should take a trip over to Kitzbuhel, it's the next mountain over and has some fantastic views.
