Just wondering if anyone is planning to the first Irish ski & snowboard championships which are taking place in Livigno between march 8th -15th?
Both ski racing and freestyle sking events will be taking place. This event is been promoted by www.irishsnowboarder.com and looks like a decent crowd are heading there. Its a great idea that should be an annual event from now on. Dont think Im going to be able to make it myself but just thought i'd bring it to your attention.

Interesting, is this support by some official irish bodies ?
Sounds like it could be cool. I don't think my budget would allow it this year :(

Wow, never heard of this before, is it new ? How do you enter this ? I could be talked into taking part, and snowing off my elite skills on the piste.

What is the level at these events ? would it be okay to go along and just watch, and also do some lessons while I am there ?
Is Les deux alpesis near val Isère?

Hi joy, at least 50% of people attending are just there to watch and for the social side of things :)
There are also intermediate slalom and intermediate freestyle events for more moderate skill levels.
L2A is relatively near val d'isere, in that its in the french alps, but it is more southerly and at a higher altitude.

so I'm not allowed to compete since I don't have an irish passport, right? :)

pabbartek : do you have Irish citizenship / residency . I'm sure that should be enough...

hey pabbartek,
you are elegible for the competitions if you are any one of these:
1. Have an Irish passport
2. Be born in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland
3. Be eligible for an irish passport (i.e. be of irish parentage)
So you don't actually HAVE to have an Irish passport.
I didn't realise that you had to be Irish for this, I thought living in Ireland would be enough. I'm sure there are people in Northern Ireland who don't have an Irish passport. Or people who live in Ireland and are from elsewhere in Europe.

If you read the above post you can see that people born in Northern Ireland are also elegible, as well as anyone with Irish parentage.
It would be a bit controversial tho if non-irish people were allowed enter and someone from France or Switzerland showed up and won "the irish champs"!!!
Sorry Paul I stand corrected. :D
I guess it will always be a contentious issue, and you won't be able to keep everyone happy. It's your competition, and your rules are well defined.
I just think it's harsh, but I do know that you can't keep everyone happy all of the time. Maybe a clause about showing proof that you live in Ireland could also be accept for future years (like a bank statement, gas bill, etc.). Just me thinking out loud here, so I hope you don't mind the feedback.
How many people do you have signed up now ?

thats cool joy :)
Signups are going well, a lot of people have just booked their flights already. We should be on track to get 100+ people, which is our target.
