So my question is ....

I've been learning Italian and I would like to go and actually use it at some stage, can anyone recommend a resort that is close enough to say another major Italian city. I would like to spend some time in a city after or before I go on the holiday and get some practise in.

ciao !

Livigno would be a good suggestion. Venice and Milan are both reachable.

There is also a duty free shopping area there too ! So you can get some cheap booze to help you with your confidence to speak Italian.

Livigno is supposed to be a world class location. Verona is a big enough place too which would be work visiting. I think you could make it to Milan in 4 hours in a car though. And Verona in closer to 3.

If you are renting a car there would be plenty of big enough cities within a 5 hour drive of the slopes. I'm not too sure how their rail network is in Italy, but I'm sure it's a damn site better than what we have here in Ireland.

I've only gone skiing in France and I am less likely to go anywhere seeing as I only speak French.

You could try Canazie in the Dolomites, they call it the Dolomiti Super ski, 11000 klm of groomed pistes. I think its about two and a half hour drive from Verona.

Hi Karl, is it this place on googlemaps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Dolomiti+Super+ski+Italy&sll=46.473408,11.736573&sspn=0.06916,0.125484&ie=UTF8&ll=46.473408,11.736573&spn=0.553269,1.003876&z=10&om=1)
11000 km's of piste ? That's lots.

Thats it, Theres I think 6 linked villages all with there own ski areas, fantistic lift system linking them togeather, The circut that connects all the villages is called the Sella Ronda, you can ski it both clockwise and anti- clock. it takes about 5 hours inc stops for lunch and tea brakes, and you still won't have touched the ski fields, if your an intermediate or advanced skier you will just love this place.

Thanks Karl, that does sound really nice. I think more research is needed on my part !

Thanks Karl & everyone for their recommendations. I think I might head to Italy for my second week, as I am already heading to Innsbruck Austria for the first one.

Choosing a place to go sometimes can be frightening without some recommendations from people, so a big thanks to you guys !
