Has anyway been inn Decenber/January?

Any other advice for New Years ski trips would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Booked an apartment here (Crystal with Le Chamois d'Or) with my two teenage daughters in Jan 2010. They slept in 'cabin' style bunk beds in the hallway. I unfortunately slept on the pull out couch in the tiny kitchen/living area. The pull out couch was like a bullet. I had to ask for 5 extra quilts to act as a matress to try and get some sleep should have booked a proper apartment with a bedroom. The apartments themselves are clean, warn, small but functional - nothing fancy. There is a handy supermarket downstairs. They sell roast chickens for 8 which you book in the morning. He Irish pub is nice but 8 for a pint of the black stuff. There is a great tex mex restaurant (not cheap) in the upper part of VT. There is a Skiset about 30yds down the street. Watch out for fitting though we had to bring back boots and skis after one day. The absolute best thing about these apartments is the location. Take a lift downstairs to the ski room, open the door, click into the skis and off you go. Ski School meeting point is an easy 100m ski away. Note that returning is down the Plein Sud blue which is not quiet that easy and can get a bit icy and busy. Sking in VT is brilliant but the central area can get crazy with bodies flying everywhere. Best runs are 1) an energetic blue/red from the top of the peclet all the way back down to VT b) take a trip over to the Orelle valley c) cascades is a great warm-up in the morning (nice place to eat at top) d) Boismint is nice and quiet. It was very cold in Jan (-16 C) so bundle up. The Moraine lift is the coldest lift I have ever been on. Watch out for Chambery airport it was a disaster when we were there and I hear it is nearly always a disaster. Its problem is that is smack in the middle of the mountains hence weather is an ongoing issue. When we arrived the queues snaked out into the car park. Ill go thru Geneva/Grenoble next time and put up with the extra hour on the bus.

Crystal transfers were a tad chaotic. Used Inghams before to go to Sass Fee and they were very smooth.

Hi,

All my ski trips have been for the usual week. This year I am looking for a 4 or 5 day trip. Is it possible get a decent package for tis length of time ? So far, it seems that going independant for 4/5 days is more or less the same price as a week package with Crystal/Inghams etc. There are a number of UK operators who specialise in long ski weekends but (as usual) they are all based on using UK airports. Adding in the costs of a return flight plus hassle does not make that a viable option.

Thx
Mike

Wondering if someone can help. I need to know what board size to buy. I am about 5' 8'', 10 & 1/2 stone and i can handle most red runs without too much difficulty. I have rented for the last few years and been given boards from 150 to 158cm. I think the rental shops sometimes just hand out what they have in stock. I dont do the parks but like to go at the boardercross tracks for the fun. If someone can give me an idea about what the correct size board, that would be great.. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

170 Euro ONO with Fischer bindings, ski bag and ski poles (125cm). Available in Dublin 12. Tel: 0851014494. Photos available via email or please have a look here:
http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=197332

The top model from 2006/2007 season in the giant slalom race category. Equipped with World Cup technology. Great skis for a very good skier who likes power and speed. Skis are in a great condition and were rarely used because I much prefer slalom ski.

They were never used on the dry slope in Kilternian.

Sidecut: 112-66-96 Radius: 16

Manufacturer's Description of the Fischer RC4 Worldcup RC:

"The completely new 2006 RC features Fischer FlowFlex technology. With FlowFlex the ski is allowed to flex entirely freely, providing optimum power and constant contact on the snow. "It holds magnificently and makes effortless railroad-track turns of all shapes," says Ski Magazine.
The versatile RC has remained one of our more popular race skis and now teamed with FlowFlex will surely become a favorite. While not FIS legal, this ski easily covers the needs of an all-mountain expert skier as well as being the weapon of choice for business league and weekend racers. Additional changes: updated sidecut and 3D shape to maximize performance with FlowFlex, new tip protector. Also features a new, higher plate (17mm)."

Since we also wear the kilt, I thought this event might be of interest to skiers here.

The Cairngorm ski centre in Aviemore, Scotland are holding an event on Saturday the 6th of March to see how many skiers they can have skiing wearing the kilt at any one time.

Over 500 people have signed up already, so it sounds like it will be good craic

See link below:

http://www.cairngormmountain.co.uk/news/53-w-r-a---cg-k

Conditions are excellent at the moment (140cm lower slopes \ 190cm upper slopes), so it's an oppurtunity to try Scottish skiing and something a bit different.

For conditions see: www.winterhighland.com

The link below is an article on the pitfalls of wearing a kilt when skiing. Hope it doesn't put any off! :)
