No idea Brian, but I sure it must exist.

Here is another frightening report of an avalanche in Breckenridge Ski Resort

As far as I see most of these events happen to people who go off piste. So if you are frightened of avalanches then stick to the slopes !

True Paul it happens a lot of the time that people leave the slopes and don't know what to do . But something I was reading today, http://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/2...d-suffocation/ where an experienced skier got trapped in a tree well. The snow around trees can be as dangerous as quick sand, so it's not even avalanches you need to be careful of when skiing !

Here is another tragic story, one RAF man died on the Riedbergerhorn mountain, Bavaria, Germany this week in one. I'm guessing they were hiking and then skiing down when the avalanche started then. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...avalanche.html
