Skiing is classed as a dangerous or extreme sport with the insurance agencies, and thankfully I've never had anything worse than a twisted ankle or a few scraps from going through a tree line or two. So I'm wondering what's the worst thing you've seen (or caused).

I remember when I was in Solden once, when I was learning to ski, I crashed into this cute girl who really annoyed and serious after I ploughed into her and ended up getting tangled. But nothing was hurt, well I wasn't anyway I've also seen people being airlifted off the piste once. There was a bump in the slope, where it crossed a road and someone lost control going over the bump and it looked liked they had messed up their legs. The rescue team had come and covered him with a blanket when I passed, and when I got to the bottom of the slope I saw the helicopter come in and land.

A friend of mine broke his elbow, he was doing some advanced class learning how to go through trees. This year I've heard that they have been much more accidents because of the bad conditions in Europe and the higher likely hood of getting ice.

Nothing has happened to me (touch wood)

I snapped in half my achilles about 4-5 years ago . Very odd feeling...your brain says your foot is hanging down at 45 degrees and its flat on the floor. Eeeek. Anyway I went and saw a great doc in Dublin and he gave me the once over and I was back skiing the following year ! As you all know , insurace is very important !

I hope you have an injury free season tomas, coming back from injury can be tough.

What ski insurance do you use xcountry ? I've used VHI for the times I went and the E111 card on the back of the PAYE card.

I never injured myself skiing per se, rather it's all being aprés ski, when I've done stupid stuff, like doing jumps out off my 1st floor apartment balcony.

Normally you see dangerous accidents either when the people aren't that advanced for skiing, and there are alot of inexperienced people on the slopes. Or when it's icy. Normally I stay well clear of resorts that they that they are very suitable for beginners. While I am not a pro quite yet, I prefer to avoid bad skiers (like myself)!

HA , it's great to read these.

The first day I went skiing in France, I managed to get concussed. I was on the baby slopes and went a bit too close to the car park at the end of the day. I crashed into the side of a van and hit my head. I was so embarrassed and I needed an extra day to muster the courage to make me go back to the ski school.

ouch that looks nasty off-piste, what happened to you ?

I thank my lucky skis that I am still healthy. The worst think that ever happened to me was I fell off ski lift, but it was right at the end so I didn't fall that much.
